一个不信的人能领受圣餐吗?

复活节 Easter 2011

Today much of the world celebrates Easter, but many may be surprised to know that Easter was not originally a Christian festival. Some sources say Easter comes from the German “Ostern,” the goddess of dawn; roots very far away from Jesus. On the contrary we do have the festival Jesus gave us: the Lord’s Supper, which we take to “proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Is it wrong to celebrate Easter? No. See Romans 14:5. Rather Easter is a great opportunity to share Jesus. After all, most people fear death, and the fact that Jesus conquered death is great news indeed!

Let me share why Easter is precious to me.
I love the almost nonchalant way Jesus handles His resurrection. He died in agony on the cross. He was buried, taking our sins with Him, and then He resurrected from the dead. After this, He meets the women in the Garden and says, “Greetings.”
He didn’t say: “Whoa that was tough! That beating hurt and those spikes in My hands and feet were excruciating! Where were My disciples? They abandoned Me! Don’t you understand I took the cross and defeated the devil for your sins?”
Rather, Jesus says, “Greetings.”
It is almost as if He is saying, “Of course I am alive. What else did you expect?”

I love that about Jesus. He doesn’t have to prove anything. He is just awesome because He is God. What else should we expect? I love the fact that He arose from the dead – because that means one day I can also arise with a body that will never grow old, become weak or get sick. I love the fact that He took my sins – because now I am free to really live life without sin and guilt; I can be who God made me to be. I also love the fact that He ascended to His throne as King forever – because He is my Light and Hope and that hope will never die, because He can never die! How awesome is that? Hope that can never die!

It makes sense that people originally linked Jesus to the goddess of dawn. Dawn symbolizes a new beginning and hope. That is Jesus. It also makes sense that we celebrate Jesus and not her. He is the true light, and so He outshone her. No one can compare with Him.

That is Easter to me. What does it mean to you?
