HPV – The Infection Condoms Cannot Fully Prevent > English English

HPV – The Infection Condoms Cannot Fully Prevent

It is common knowledge that many young people living in Shanghai are sexually active – much more than before. As a result some experts believe that China is on the verge of an AIDS epidemic. [1]

According to a 2009 report in the China Daily newspaper:
A survey done by 411 Hospital of PLA (People's Liberation Army) in Shanghai, for example, found that less than 30 percent of callers to a hotline knew how to avoid pregnancy, and only 17 percent were aware of venereal diseases. More than 70 percent said they did not know sexual transmission is the major contributor to the spread of HIV/AIDS.” [2]
Wow! Lets look again at those facts:

  • Less than 30% knew how to prevent pregnancy
  • Only 17% were aware of venereal diseases
  • Over 70% said they did not knew that sexual transmission is a major way AIDS is spread.

The same article reports that as a result in China aborts about 13 million babies a year! [2]
It seems many people have never heard – or do not understand – the AIDS "use a condom" message.

But there is another message that most people worldwide have never heard of:

Human Papillomavirus [HPV]
There is a sexually transmitted infection called the human papillomavirus [HPV] and despite the extensive use of condoms in the United States, 50%-70% of sexually active people there are infected. [3]
According to the American Centre for Disease Control [CDC]:

“Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). The virus infects the skin and mucous membranes. There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect the genital areas of men and women, including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), and anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, and rectum. You cannot see HPV. Most people who become infected with HPV do not even know they have it.” [4, emphasis added]

Again, according to the CDC, there are over 20 million Americans infected and an estimated 6.2 million new infections per year. [5]

Condoms Ineffective
The high infection rate in the U.S. is evidence that condoms are ineffective against HPV.

HPV can be deadly as it is responsible for most cases of cervical cancer and recently publications such as TIME magazine reported that HPV and oral sex are linked to throat and tongue cancers. [6]

Protection
How can you protect yourself against a sexually transmitted infection that condoms cannot fully prevent? The CDC says this:

“For those who choose to be sexually active, condoms may lower the risk of HPV, if used all the time and the right way. Condoms may also lower the risk of developing HPV-related diseases, such as genital warts and cervical cancer. But HPV can infect areas that are not covered by a condom—so condoms may not fully protect against HPV.  So the only sure way to prevent HPV is to avoid all sexual activity.” [7, emphasis added]

Life-long Love
Again, God’s way is the best way. He designed sex only for marriage. So, how do you protect yourself from HPV? Only have sex with the person you are married to. If you are not married, do not have sex. If you are going to get married, make sure you both have medical tests for AIDS, HPV, herpes and other diseases. This may be a difficult topic to discuss, but if your relationship is strong, you should be able to discuss anything. After all, your life – or the other person’s life – could depend on it.

Bible Verse
“These false teachers promise those people freedom, but they themselves are not free. They are slaves to a mind that has been ruined by sin. Yes, people are slaves to anything that controls them.” [2 Peter 2:19]

The sexual revolution’s message has been one of “freedom,” but God gives law for good reasons. God’s laws protect. Not one of God’s laws harm. When people throw off God’s laws and call it, “freedom” they become trapped by sin.
