Japan's Earthquake

Japan's Earthquake

Spielberg’s images can’t top the real footage from Japan’s quakes and tsunamis. One stares in disbelief as cars, boats, even houses float down rushing waterways, and trains lay scattered like children’s toys. Large boats lay in the middle of fields. Cars are piled up like blocks.
The sea is so strong – and we are not.
Japan – one of the most “quake ready” nations on earth was not ready. Nature is so strong – and we are not.

Since Japan’s massacre in, China during World War II, many Chinese openly hate Japan. Some Chinese celebrated when they heard about the disaster. If it wasn’t for Hiroshima maybe some Americans too may have celebrated. We remember Pearl Harbor.

But, when one sees the images of devastation; the intense suffering, surely even the hardest heart is melted? These poor people. Surely a huge question is: What can I do to help? Another thought may be: God, please don’t let disaster like this happen to me.

Although we don’t inherit Adam’s sin, we do inherit the consequences. Our world is broken. Christian Hope is that we will not be here forever. This world – these fragile bodies are just tents compared to the eternal unbreakable bodies God will give to those who trust Him [1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 5]. In fact no one can imagine the joys God wants to give us [1 Corinthians 2:9].
For now however, we are here, and our battle is not against other people – never ever [Ephesians 6:12]. Rather let us do good, help, and encourage our Japanese family – any way we can. Through this may they see the same hope we have and love our Father in heaven [Matthew 5:14-16].
